What is this?

Consensus process is a method of decision making in which a group or organization reaches collective agreement amongst its members on an issue. It is often seen as an alternative to customary hierarchical methods, in which decisions are made from top down by an individual or small group. The consensus process enables decision making that is more inclusive and effective, inviting input from all members, weighing different viewpoints and alternatives, negotiating options and reaching shared objectives. It takes time, effort, and open dialogue to create a successful consensus process, but it can yield greater satisfaction and commitment to decisions than traditional methods.
